Deanna + Derek
When we first met with Deanna and Derek, the three words that came to mind were romantic, timeless, and family. For Deanna and Derek, their wedding day wouldn't include a large bridal party or an overdone reception; their day would be centered on their love and their family. They wouldn't have a bridal party at all, instead they would have their children join them to pray at the alter during the ceremony. They would be surrounded by their nearest and dearest family and friends. Deanna would carry a bouquet with her parents wedding bands and her daughter's picture since they are all no longer living. They would share communion together as a married couple and celebrate how Christ has worked in their lives by bringing them together.
If I could give this entry a subtitle I would call it something like "Curating an Intimate Space in a Large Venue." They chose to be married in their home church of First Baptist in Bowling Green. Her brother-in-law, the lead Pastor, would marry them. For anyone familiar with First Baptist, you know that this is one of the largest churches in the area. The stage alone can seat a full choir or orchestra. Without a bridal party, the challenge was using the space in a way that didn't feel empty or hollow. We encircled Deanna and Derek with tall gold floral towers and a greenery arch. The aisle was lit with candle light and lanterns. Guests were asked to move forward and fill the first ten rows so that everyone was close yet comfortable. All of these decisions that we tirelessly worked on really did make the ceremony feel warm.
After the ceremony, guests were invited to attend a reception at Indian Hills Country Club. SOKY Cellos played during this time and guests enjoyed a buffet from the club. Deanna and Derek arrived right after sunset having just finished up pictures. You could see in their faces the excitement of the ceremony being over and the marriage beginning.
Deanna & Derek-
We could not have asked for a better couple to work with. Your love for one another is so clear to see. We loved being able to witness how you care for one another and put each other first. Although you have both experienced a long journey to reach this point, we are so happy that God put you in each other's lives. May God bless your marriage and your family.
