Our Version of Downtime

January 14, 2019

October 28th was our last official wedding of 2018. Wrapping up our first year of business we were looking back on three bridal shows, a busy Valentine season, sixteen weddings, a large charity event, a 50th anniversary party, an engagement party, multiple styled shoots, a sorority floral install, and an abundance of miscellaneous flower orders. What.A.Whirlwind. To say we were proud was an understatement. October felt more like a tornado of meetings, weddings, and flowers. Each long weekend we kept promising our husbands that this was it for the year, no more KB until 2019. They were as excited, if not more, for the promised downtime.

Well… like Kacey and I often do, our downtime was not so much of a shut down but more of slight slow down.

In November we met with one of our May brides and toured the ever so lovely Highland Stables to plan out her floor plan, ceremony site, and rental items she would need. We also learned how to preserve evergreens to create some timeless Christmas centerpieces to sell at The Nest Mercantile in Bowling Green. Once we preserved all of our greenery, we built our boxes and arranged them for the store to sell.

The amazing Paige Michelle Photography reached out to us about collaborating on a Christmas Styled Shoot on her family farm. We pulled together some of our favorite Christmas looks and Kacey styled some amazing flowers for the shoot. We really enjoyed foraging for items that were in season like some red berries growing in my yard and evergreen from the nearby woods. Pairing these foraged items with a few things from our local wholesaler created a beautiful Christmas look we had dreamed up. After a Thanksgiving full of family and food we were already filling up our December calendar.

First up was Kacey’s daughter's 1st birthday bash. Kacey went with a whimsical Carousel theme. She partnered pale pink, lavender, and gold to create a soft palate that was perfectly designed for Willow. With the help of her husband (blowing up 100 balloons and burning his finger) we created our first balloon garland. It was so much fun! We are constantly finding ourselves trying new things and challenging ourselves to be more creative and adventurous.  This is one of the many reasons we love KB.

Right after Willow’s magical first birthday, we were asked to take part in a free wedding giveaway event at the Loralee Event Venue in Glasgow, KY. We designed our booth and pulled together our promotional items for this special event. We were able to giveaway a full set of boutonnieres for a lucky bride and groom! We met so many wonderful vendors, brides, grooms, and extended family members.

Kacey met up with one of our August brides and planned out her floor plan for the Historic Rail Park and Train Museum wedding. She also worked out several details for the wedding that needed to be finalized. I was able to sneak off a little early with my family for our annual Christmas trip. Kacey and our remaining family joined us the next week. We had an amazing trip and tried our very best to keep our KB talk to a minimum. We did find time to sneak off and answer a few texts, emails, and set up a few appointments for when we returned home in January. Over coffee one morning, we finalized our January bridal show plans and ordered a few must have items.

Although our “down time” wasn’t what we had planned, we both had time to relax and be with our families during these slower months. This past year we have learned how to rest when we have time and work when it is needed. We have tried our best to balance our schedules and still enjoy KB. No matter how busy or how slow it might be, we make it our mission to celebrate family, fun, and work.
