New Year, New Trends
It’s a new year, so that means new trends. Here at KB Design we have been devouring article after article about the 2018 wedding trends. So far, we are in LOVE with what the experts are saying.
According to Martha Stewart Weddings there are 13 trends to watch for. Glancing over these 13 trends we definitely see some that are going to be easier and more affordable to implement. Trends like marble dance floors and translucent tents can seem a bit out of budget for some. However, moody, colorful flowers and potted plants for the aisle speak to the bride who wants opulence at a fair price. Another wedding expert also released an article recently naming deep plum as the color of the moment. We are pumped about this. Nothing is more romantic than a deep, juicy color like plum. Wedding Wire has declared that hanging floral arrangements are the way to make a big impact with your reception. Recently we took an afternoon to play around with this concept and we agree, this trend provides a big impact with an emphasis on romance.
Another trend that experts announced that we are ecstatic to see coming is that “rustic” is moving out and “woodsy” is on the way in. We still love rustic and even the industrial look, but the woodsy theme is so romantic and fun to work with. Burlap is phasing out in popularity while wood elements are making their way to the top of the list. This past year we found our woodsy vibe with a Woodland theme shower for Willow, Kacey’s first born. It was so fun experimenting with a wood burning kit, adding in whimsical arrangements in birch pots created by the ever talented Jules Neely from Jules With the Flowers, and adding an arbor with flowing greenery and a handmade wooden sign. Woodsy is definitely one of our favs!
Another Wedding Wire prediction is that unique food and creative desserts are going to be on the rise. This is a concept we can certainly get behind! From donut bars to macaroons in 2017, non-traditional desserts have been baking up this past year. We see more pies, cheesecakes, and personalized desserts coming to a wedding near you. As far as unique foods, individual portions are a favorite for cocktail hour as well as specialized bars like taco bars, ice cream sundae bars, and even hotdog bars. Farm to table is going to grow in popularity. Fresh, organic, and homegrown will be a trend everyone benefits from.
Texture is the word of 2018. Texture in linens will be incredibly popular according to Martha Stewart weddings. Texture will also be amped up in invitations, menus, and even how you present your food. Metals, woods, linens, and living arrangements will all blend seamlessly in each brides design plan. Geometric shapes made of glass and metal will show up in 2018. This trend began gaining steam in 2017, but experts are predicting this to grow and show up more and more.
Finally, Wedding Wire declared that traditional is back. Luckily they also added the word whimsical, which will prevent tradition from becoming stuffy. Classic choices, timeless attire, and clean lines will bring back traditional vibes as well as leave couples with images that transcend time. We cannot wait to dig into these trends and see where 2018 takes us!
